Flowers
It’s really trying for a painter to live down ‘the woman flower painter’ thing.
With so many warnings, ‘not too beautiful’, ‘not too picturesque’, ‘it’s all been done before’; it is often more about can’t than can. Although it is right to keep questioning one’s own approach, I find that I know much more about painting when I risk painting flowers. I will always paint flowers for a wealth of reasons not the least of which is their power to astonish.
